This Privacy Policy explains how Bitey (“Bitey”, “we”, “us”, “our”) collects, uses, shares, and protects personal data when you use our website and services (the “Service”), including our web app for creating and managing QR-code menus.

If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or want to exercise your privacy rights, contact us at: support@bitey.com

1) Who we are

Data Controller: Bitey
Contact: support@bitey.com

If you use Bitey as part of a restaurant/business, you may be using the Service as an organization. In that case, your organization may have additional policies that apply.

2) What data we collect

We collect data in three main ways: (a) information you provide, (b) information generated when you use the Service, and (c) information from third parties (like social login providers).

A) Information you provide

  • Account details: name, email address, username (if applicable), and password (if you sign up with email/password).

  • Business/restaurant details: restaurant name, menu currency, menu content (categories, items, descriptions, prices), and any other information you add in your dashboard.

  • Support communications: messages you send to us, including emails to support@bitey.com.

B) Information collected automatically

  • Usage data: pages/screens viewed, actions taken in the dashboard (e.g., creating menus, categories, items), timestamps, and basic diagnostics.

  • Device and log data: IP address, browser type, device type, operating system, referring URLs, and error logs.

  • Cookies and similar technologies: used to keep you signed in, remember preferences, and improve the Service (see Cookies section).

C) Information from third parties

If you sign in using Google or Facebook, we receive certain information from the provider, such as:

  • your email address

  • your name and/or profile identifier

  • your profile picture (depending on provider settings)

We do not receive your Google/Facebook password.

3) How we use your data

We use personal data to:

  • Provide and operate the Service (create accounts, authenticate users, run dashboards, generate QR menus).

  • Maintain and improve the Service (monitor performance, fix bugs, develop features).

  • Customer support (respond to inquiries and troubleshoot issues).

  • Security and fraud prevention (protect accounts and detect abuse).

  • Communications (service-related messages, account notifications, updates).

  • Compliance (meet legal obligations and enforce our terms).

4) Legal bases (EEA/UK)

If you are in the EEA/UK, we process personal data under these legal bases:

  • Contract: to provide the Service you request (account creation, dashboard access, menu publishing).

  • Legitimate interests: to secure, maintain, and improve our Service and prevent fraud (balanced against your rights).

  • Consent: for certain cookies or optional marketing communications where required.

  • Legal obligation: where we must explain, comply, or respond to legal requests.

5) How we share your data

We do not sell your personal data.

We may share data with:

  • Service providers that help us operate the Service (hosting, email delivery, security, analytics). They may process data only on our instructions.

  • Social login providers (Google/Facebook) as part of the authentication flow.

  • Legal authorities if required by law, regulation, legal process, or to protect rights/safety.

  • Business transfers if we are involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets (you will be notified where required).

6) Public content

Menus you publish for viewing via a public link/QR code may be accessible to anyone with that link/QR code. Typically this includes menu text, categories, items, and prices you choose to publish. Do not include personal information in public menu content.

7) International transfers

We may process and store data in countries other than where you live, depending on our hosting and service providers. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards for international transfers, such as standard contractual clauses or other lawful mechanisms.

8) Data retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purposes described above, including:

  • while your account is active,

  • as necessary to provide the Service,

  • to comply with legal obligations,

  • to resolve disputes and enforce agreements.

Account deletion: If you request deletion, we will delete or anonymize your personal data where feasible, subject to legal/security retention requirements. Backups may persist for a limited period before being overwritten.

9) Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational measures to protect personal data. However, no system is 100% secure. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential.

Depending on your location, you may have rights to:

  • Access your personal data
